Sustainability

The 2026 CHLA/ABSC Conference in Québec City, Québec, is committed to integrating sustainability considerations into every facet of the event. From venue selection to attendee engagement, our goal is to minimize environmental impact while fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

Québec Land Acknowledgment

Québec City is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Wendat people and all other Nations who walked this land long before the arrival of European settlers. The presence of the Wendat Nation remains vibrant today, especially in Wendake, an Indigenous community located just a few kilometers from downtown Québec.

Travel

Recognizing that travel has serious environmental impacts, we encourage attendees to seek the most environmentally friendly modes of transportation to and from Québec, and within the city. Attendees traveling by air can calculate their carbon emissions and consider purchasing carbon offsets. To learn more, visit the David Suzuki Foundation's guide on air travel and climate change.

On the Welcome to Québec page of the website, you’ll find recommendations for low-emission transportation options in the city, including public transit and self-service bikes. The hotel is within walking distance of many tourist attractions and services—walking is a wonderful way to explore a city while minimizing your carbon footprint!

Hotel

The 2026 CHLA/ABSC Conference accommodations at the Hotel Le Concorde offer the opportunity to stay in a space that supports sustainable living. The hotel promotes recycling in guest rooms, prioritizes resource conservation by changing linens and towels only upon request, reduces single-use plastics by offering pitchers of water instead of plastic bottles, and minimizes waste by serving coffee breaks with reusable dishware, such as porcelain cups, rather than disposable containers. Additionally, its restaurants source ingredients locally.

Accessibility

The conference rooms are located on the same floor, which is accessible by elevators, making it easier for individuals with reduced mobility to move between presentations and activities.
