Tours

There will be three tours offered during CHLA/ABSC 2024. Make sure to sign up during the registration process as space is limited!

Note: If you have already registered but want to register for any of the tours, select the Register as a guest option and choose the Booking a Tour option on the registration page.


  1. Winnipeg Trolley City Tour
    Tuesday, 11 June, 15:00–17:00
    $20
    Limited to 32 participants

    Join other conference attendees on Winnipeg Trolley Co.’s Heart of a Nation City tour of Winnipeg. Explore Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District, the charming French district of St. Boniface, the Manitoba Legislative Building, and more! Learn how a local team became history’s first Olympic hockey champions, Winnipeg’s shocking connection to the world’s most famous spy—James Bond—and much more. This tour is humorous, engaging, and will help you discover what makes the city at the heart of the country so special!

    Pick up will be at the Delta Hotel (conference hotel) at 15:00. Drop off will be at 17:00 at the Delta Hotel.

  2. Qaumajuq - Winnipeg Art Gallery Tour
    Tuesday, 11 June, 18:00–18:45
    $5
    Limited to 25 participants

    Prior to CHLA/ABSC’s Opening Reception, immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Inuit art at Qaumajuq-Winnipeg Art Gallery, which houses the largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art in the world. A museum tour guide will lead you through Qilak, the new 8,000 square foot gallery focused on Inuit art. Take a journey through the North through art, exhibitions, research, and education and be inspired by the creativity and resilience of the Inuit.

    Note: The Delta Hotel is an eight-minute walk from Qaumajuq - Winnipeg Art Gallery. Alternative transportation methods are also available as needed.

  3. Lunch at the Forks and Tour of the Canadian Museum of Human Rights
    Friday, 14 June, 13:00–16:00
    $23 (includes admission to the museum; you will be responsible for lunch costs)
    Limited to 25 participants

    After wrapping up a successful conference, visit the vibrant Forks Market for a delicious lunch. Sit at one of the open-air tables and enjoy a meal (and a glass of wine!) as you overlook the historic meeting spot of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers in the heart of The Forks. We will then walk (5 minutes) to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, a world-renowned museum in the heart of downtown Winnipeg for a tour of the museum.

    Note: Weather permitting, the group will walk from the Delta Hotel to the Forks Market (approx. 20 minutes). Alternative transportation methods are also available as needed.

Other Social Activities

  1. Navigating Your First CHLA (Tuesday June 11th from 6-6:45 pm)
    If this is your first time attending CHLA/ABSC, then this event is for you! Come meet and connect with other first-time attendees, chat with CHLA/ABSC board members, and learn about how to make the most of this fantastic conference. Afterwards, make your way over to the official Opening Reception

  2. Opening Reception at Qaumajuq - Winnipeg Art Gallery (Tuesday June 11th from 7-9pm)
    The CHLA/ABSC Opening Reception will be held at Ilavut Hall at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Explore the Visible Vault, where over 5,000 pieces of contemporary Inuit Art are on display, as you nibble on appetizers and catch up on old (and new!) colleagues. This reception will be held in conjunction with the closing reception of the True North Science Bootcamp so is also a great opportunity to meet and talk with sciences librarians from across the country

  3. Dine Arounds (Wednesday June 12th at 6pm)
    CHLA/ABSC will be organizing Dine-Arounds at some of our favourite local eateries. More details and sign-up sheets will be available on site during the conference. Attendees will also have the chance for a sweet stop (both literally and figuratively!) after dinner.

  4. Closing Banquet (Thursday June 13th at 6pm)
    The CHLA/ABSC Awards Banquet will be held on Thursday June 13th at the Delta Hotel (check out a review of the food!). Come prepared to nosh on some amazing food, have a glass of wine, catch up with colleagues, and celebrate our award winners. Attendees will also be treated to some live entertainment!

  5. After Party (Thursday June 13th after Closing Banquet)
    Closing Banquet not enough fun for you? Want to check out some other Winnipeg hot spots? Join us for food, drinks, and music.

  6. Creative Corner
    The Creative Corner will be a space within the exhibit hall where participants can take a break from regular conference activities and express their creative side with other members of the community. It will offer an opportunity for attendees to unwind while knitting, crocheting, drawing, colouring, puzzling, or engaging in other fun activities.
