FAQs

Why is the conference in-person? Will there be virtual conferences in future years?

We had signed a contract with the conference hotel prior to the pandemic for CHLA/ABSC 2021, which ended up transitioning to online due to the restrictions in place at the time. This year's conference represents the fulfillment of that original contract and is therefore obligated to be in-person.

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting the CHLA/ABSC 2021 virtual conference. As an association, CHLA/ABSC looks forward to integrating regular, 100% virtual meetings into the rotation of conference sites across Canada.

When will the program be available?

The Program at a Glance is now available for you to start making travel plans. We anticipate having our full program published in the spring.

Is there any CE this year?

Based on the recommendations of past conference planning committees, we have opted to not include CE in this year's conference schedule, and instead focus on delivering excellent conference programming.

I’m a member of another health library association, is there a discount for registration?

We look forward to welcoming health information professionals from near and far. Members of the Medical Library Association (MLA) are eligible for registration at the CHLA/ABSC member rate with a discount code. Unfortunately, this reciprocal registration agreement does not extend to members of other library associations.

Who can use the student rates?

Student rates apply to current Library Technician, MLIS/MI and PhD students.

I need to cancel my registration. Can I do that?

Registration fees for CHLA/ABSC sponsored events are refunded (minus a $25.00 processing fee) if written notice is received at least 28 days prior to the event. Cancellations requested in writing for medical reasons are accepted at any time and refunded at 50%. Please let us know ahead of time if you need to cancel; no-shows will not be refunded.

I'm having trouble with the registration system. How do I get help?

For registration issues, please contact Justin at Redstone Agency for assistance.

Do presenters need to register for the conference?

Yes, all presenters are required to register for the conference at the early bird or regular rate. Based on the experience from previous years and due to the logistical requirements, we are not offering a one-day or half-day registration option. However, there are reduced rates available for those who are retired or unemployed, library technicians, and students as well as registrants who self-identify as belonging to equity-denied groups; see our posted registration rates. We want to also remind presenters that CHLA/ABSC offers members Annual Conference Grants to support attendance.

Is there an airline discount code? How do I get from the airport to the hotel?

We are offering discount codes for Air Canada and WestJet. Information on using these codes and on getting around Winnipeg is available on our Travel & Accomodation page.

Where can I stay in Winnipeg?

Booking directly through the conference hotel is important as it allows CHLA/ABSC to meet its contractual obligations, and put on the conference for a reduced cost for attendees. The hotel rates for CHLA/ABSC attendees are very favourable compared to similar accommodations nearby.

Does the conference have a code of conduct?

Please review the CHLA/ABSC Conference Code of Conduct before attending. We are dedicated to ensuring our conference is inclusive and welcoming for all. Report any potential violations of the Code of Conduct using the Incident Reporting Form.

Does the conference have a health and safety guideline?

We all have a responsibility to make this a safe and inclusive conference, and to take appropriate precautions to protect each other. Follow guidance within your own health regions for maintaining vaccination status to help reduce transmission and decrease the burden of disease on individuals and systems. We recommend attendees wear a mask in event spaces; masks will be available on-site. We will be maintaining an attendance below the physical capacity of the presentation spaces, and ask that you respect the boundaries of fellow attendees. For the safety of yourself and others, please do not attend the conference if you are unwell; cancellations requested in writing for medical reasons are accepted at any time and refunded at 50%. Attendees will comply with all local, provincial, and national policies and mandates, as well as directives from facility staff; this guidance may be strengthened in response to changes in local recommendations.

Does the conference have an accessibility guideline?

We are committed to making our conference accessible to everyone. We encourage all presenters to review our accessibility resources in preparing their materials. Attendees can also learn about the accessibility features of the conference hotel. If you need conference materials in an alternative format or notice any accessibility issues with our website, please contact us.

Does the conference have a sustainability guideline?

Yes! Please review our sustainability page.
